was around 600 warm, closer to 750 or 800 cold.

I dont know now, I just had the IP changed and the idle had to be re-adjusted.

Now, I was told that a low idle was a bad thing for these motors, something about poor oil circulation on the top part of the motor. I dont remember exactly where, but an idle of less than 600 did not provide adequate oil flow to some crital part.

My high idle is about 800-900 and warm is about 7-750.
I wait a good 5 minutes before driving if its not plugged in overnight. With it plugged in I take off after a minute or two.
When its real cold like it was a couple weeks ago (-10 F) i let it idle until the ta kicks off when its plugged in.

Ever try to pour 15W 40 when its below zero? I should probably run 10W 30 when it gets below 0.

I feel like my 90 7.3 NEVER warms up. The heater runs very lukewarm, and the temp gauge barely moves off of the needle rest. Do i need a new t-stat? Maybe a new heater core?

I let it idle for a few minutes if it is below 30* when I start it. I kept waiting for the heater to kick in before moving, but that is a lost cause. Even after 40 minutes of driving, I never see the temp gauge move.

(By the way, if this needs a new topic of its own, please let me know)

Sounds as though a new thermostat is needed. Also check your antifreeze level. If low in radiator it will pull antifreeze from heater to keep full and put air into heater core.

When the engin actually kicks over for you guys is it pretty rough in the cold it is for me, the engine goes into a high idle on its own then after 5 minutes it frops down to a low idol, its pretty cooll. also my engine light is starting to come on longer and longer everytime i drive my truck, any suggestions for better mileage besides a turbo like any intakes for a 90 f350?
