If you can find one on ebay or used bookstore get a copy of "1982 BRONCO/F100/350 Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual" by Ford Motor Company. Breaks the wiring down by sections so it's easy to trace. I have the '83 version which has really been a lifesaver for me when dealing with problems and mods to my '83 F350. I've noticed that my wire colors have faded/changed over the years where exposed to UV light or heat (reds, pinks and oranges and especially white, which can look like tan or even brown).
sandman6921: I'd be interested in the Part numbers of the main harness of your truck, if you wouldn't mind sharing. My Ford Dealer has a library of old schematics and microfiche that they let me look through from time to time when they aren't really busy in the service department. Might be able to find out why it's different. etc...
I was ( past tense) trying to get power to blower motor. Schematic I had showed power from fuse panel to switch to blower motor. Reality was fuse panel to blower motor to resistor to switch. Member finally e-mailed me with color code that matched and then I could trace. Until I had a color I was lost since I had a truck with no fuse panel cover, and had the wrong fuses throughout. Still confused though why the colors don't match the published schematics. On to the next problem --- temperature control cable is broken
Newbie so I may not be at the correct spot to reply. Anyway I am sitting here with the exact same issue. With key on I have one leg of plug at blower hot. No apparent power at plug into dash heater switch. And no idea which fuse is which. Are we separated at truck birth? Frozen '82 F100.
steamin441 Its not funny, ( actually ppretty frustrating) and as you haved discovered someone at ford had a sense of humor with the harnesses. I found my hot wire on the panel top , the fuse that is sideways from the others (brown y/yellow ) its hot out to blower, thru resistor (on bottom of heat cabinet low right from heater blower) back to switch and then to ground. Even if your resistor is bad it should run on high
Well ,Thanks to you I have a starting point.I am puzzled about being hot at blower plug in- on one wire and nothing at incoming switch plug. At least I can start looking for continuity.
I have found most 80-86 truck wiring to be pretty close to each other in fact I put a 86 harness in my 84 but there are things I didn't get that were different like tank selector switch heater and ac wiring all seemed the same from yr to yr.I did get ford manuals on ebay all of them and needed to use all of them hayes and chilton are good if you want to change your oil but thats about it.I replaced all of my wiring from the headlights to the complete dash because of a electrical fire now if I could find a complete harness from the cab back to the rear lights for a 86 big block I will be set.
