Red face not getting the 55 now....

Well, I miscaculated the fuel cost to KS to pick up the 55 next weekend, it's going to be another $250+ in fuel, plus a hotel for one night, plus food....! I was so excited, I completely forgot about eating, sleeping and the fuel difference.... Well, that and I didn't want to use my small truck to pull a full size truck 800+ miles back with. So, I think I'm just gonna restore my 64 Chevy sitting in the back yard... Sorry, I was looking forward to owning another 55, maybe I will again someday? Thanks for all the help!

We (dad and I) just drove 620 miles (each way) and towed a 56 f-100 home with my 01 explorer. We used a tow dolly which he borrowed from a guy he works with. It worked great!

The fuel was my big expense. Not good, but not horrible compared to the overall cost of the truck (plus what I will spend). We took a cooler with sodas, water, and snacks with us. We drove straight out and home. Just a few rest stops in parking lots. No hotel bill at all and very little was spent on food during the trip.

If this is the final word on the 55, I am sorry to hear it, but don't give up the dream. It took me many years to finally get the 56 I have wanted since I was a kid. I finally have one.

Mirage, sorry to hear about "not" getting the '55.

You know it's not a very heavy truck.

It just weighs a bit over 3200 pounds.

I'd think of a way to get it home; that's if you really want the '55.

Too bad, what shape was the 55 in? If it was in good shape it maybe worth a second sometimes third thought. If not then a better one may come along, possibly already built and ready to go.

It needed a total resto. I'm not totally sure what it "looked" like, other than the pics and you know how pictures can be? I want it, but something inside doesn't click with this whole transaction and the bad thing is, I already sent him half the price as the deposit, which I most likely will never see again...?! I just don't have the extra money to go, period. Besides, it's something I want, not something I need and I really need more money to pay this wonderful debt, I've got myself into, over the last few years....

Ok...only you know the situation. We were just trying to offer encouragement.

If it needed that much work, you should probably wait until a better one comes along and you have the other debts settled. One will come along if you are patient. I spent more than I should at this point in time, but this truck is very solid and a running truck. I couldn't resist this one. I think everyone here knows how that goes.

Either way, good luck.

You'll get a '55.

Real bummer about the 55'. And also a real bummer about losing the deposit ..... especially when your in trouble with your debts. Believe Me I can understand about that. I had to buy back my 55' from My brother for $1800.00 He was going to sell it on the street and the truck had been in the family for 35 years. So I bit the bullet and shelled out the money. Borrowed a pick up from a friend rented a trailer and towed it home. Total of 500 miles there and back.

I know yall are trying to encourage me =) I was real excited, not I'm kinda ticked off. Also, I want a 55 for sentimental reasons, besides everyone wants a 56 and I don't wanna be like everyone else. Oh, by the way, I'm near Huntsville, AL.

John,

Next Saturday. I know gas prices may bring out less rods I think the folks will still come though. Free food and all. I hope I don't have to work. Christmas is normally one of our busier times. I work for a computer assembly company here in Nashville.

Donald

P.S. How is your Grand youngin'?
