Anyone have troubles with their block heater? I believe mine doesn't work. I cleaned the 3 prong plug and checked for voltage at the plug with my DVM.
GEEEZZZ...seems like a simple device???!!! Thought it was my glow plugs/gpr at first but found them to be in good working condition. Truck starts no problem in 20 degree weather after waiting 1 minute before starting.
I don't know about all, but yours should. On the drivers side bumper, look around the tow eye hole. You will have to feel around pretty good to find it. You may have to look behind the bumper with a flashlight.
Joe
i had to replace the plug on the end, the wire broke and their was no way to re-wire it so i got a new plug and installed it... works great now..!
Hey johnny...looks like my electric cable for the block heater is bad. Open on both hot and neutral. Wonder how much the stealership wants for a new cable? What a PITA getting it out of the truck! used my DVM to trace it out to the open being at the heater block end (orange coating over black cable).
I found mine; it was tucked way up in the bumper lodged behind my tow loop. Thanks.
I don't know if they have but Ford needs to come up with a better and easier
access point for the heater cable. Maybe some weather proof cover plate...kinda like on a campers electric cord access.
My plug had a cap on the end. I took it off and noticed the prongs were weathered. They could do a better job.
I took the cap off of mine, I think the plugs rust faster with the cap on then off, reason being that he plug holds moisture and doesn't allow the plug to dry out. Best thing to use would be some dielectric grease, but then it would also pick up a lot of grit as well.

Yeah...being that the heater is 1000watts i think it would be a good idea to take some emery cloth to the prongs once in awhile, then tuck it behind the bumper without the cover for drying.
Also make sure you secure the plug so it doesn't blow back and forth on the radiator fins. It will close them up in about a 3 inch area, I found out the hard way.
