van to pu e4od swap??
I am looking at replacing the e4od transmission in my f150. I have a chance to buy an e4od from a van. The van is 2wd and my truck 4wd. Can I just change the tailhousing and put the transfercase on it and will that work? Also is it the same bolt pattern? They both had 302's. Also is there a good site that I could better id this transmission on as I have the numbers off the tag. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a million

E4ODs behind 302s are not all that common. I would make sure that's what you're dealing with first. Does the pan say METRIC on the bottom?
I have heard that with an auto you can swap tailhousings to make one into a 4x4, but I haven't done it myself, so I can't say for certain.
The bellhousing bolt pattern is the same.

The tailshafts will just swap, no problem. The hard part is that the output shaft is different. The shaft from a 2wd will not mate to the transfer case. The good news is that you can use the shaft from the 4wd trans, but the bad news is EVERYTHING needs to come out of the trans to change the output shaft.
