Wow... while I really hope this is the next Challenger, this looks more like an old (or reproduction) body on newer running gear, with "Foose" front and rear bodywork. Possibly to judge consumer reaction... Chrysler had a similar E-body car at the NY autoshow a couple of years ago - old body fitted to a Viper chassis (even the interior was straight out of the Viper).
But the thought of a new Challenger going wheel-to-wheel with a new Mustang out on the track... it'd be 1970 all over again!
That would be amazing. Finally some competition for the Stang, yet the GT wouldn't really be much competition. Now the GT500 would still eat its lunch unless Dodge put the 6.1 in it. I hope it comes out and forces GM to make another Camaro.
Isn't the GT500 a Supercharged 5.4? I don't think that the plans for the Dodge include a supercharger, but if they install the 6.1 liter, 425 HP Hemi in it, that Dodge will really run. I think the Mopar pack took a look at the success of the new Mustang, with it's retro styling and decided there really is a market for a 2 door hardtop with RWD and a big V-8. Too bad they didn't do it sooner with the Charger. And, guess what, no competition from Japan on 2 door RWD hardtops!!!!!!
Per the article, the Challenger should be getting the 6.1L HEMI with 425HP. Now like the Stang, if produced the Challenger will most likely have multiple levels. Probably a V6 version as well as a 5.7L HEMI version and the top of the line 6.1L HEMI version. I would believe the 6.1L version would be in the price range and perfromance range of the Stang GT500.
Here is a link for the 2007 Camaro Concept. Not a bad looking ride either. Haven't seen any specs on them yet, but the style bring back memories of my '69.
Very nice, my uncle has an original 1970 challenger Hemi and this new one looks alot like it. Hopefully it gets better MPG. My uncles was the only car I'd ever been in that the gas guage moved as fast or faster than the speedometer. Anybody thats driven one of the old Hemi's knows.
And people wonder why GM is going out of business. That thing is a mess. I mean really...from the uselessly placed mirrors to the swoopy things coming off the fenders to the "tribute to the Dodge Neon" front end....blech....
Monsta: They do need to clean up the Camaro a little, but the overall design looks really nice. They went the retro route, like everyone else is doing. They just went a little too far with some of the design. This of course is just one concept version, not a finished product. So I think they can make some minor changes and it would look great! Just my opinion though.
Now, the question is, "Will they actually build that car?". If I remember correctly, wasn't the original Charger concept car more like the 69-ish body style Chargers? And they ended up with a car that I still like, but reminds me of the Magnums and 300C more than anything. I love that concept Challenger, but I am not too certain they will build that car. Correct my original Charger concept memory if I am mistaken.
Building it will depend on the success of the Charger. Being a current Challenger owner, I can tell you this, I am very excited about this car. If one is built, I will buy it. Also, I have my doubts that it will look like the concept.
sense it has very simular lines to the orginal Challenger. Maybe to much simular to assume this what they will build it but you will never know. I frequent a lot various car forums, GM, Dodge, and Ford, this is one vehical that has been very well recieved.
Rumors are that once the Challenger is ready for production, Chrysler will have the 392 Hemi ready for the SRT-8's which is also rumored to push out 500 hp. The 6.1L (370) Hemi's are running in the mid 12 stock in cool air in the 300C's. 500 HP should be low 12's easy in a 2 door if they can keep the weight off.
Right now, Chrysler is looking like old, performance wise! I believe this is a good thing for who ever you are emotionally tied to.
Yeah, remember what Chrysler did with the fron of the Crossfire, which started out quite attractive [url]http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/crossfire.html
