I need replacement gas tanks for my 1979 f-250 4wd. The local sources do not have them anymore, and some after market place in SC/NC do not make them anymore.
Anyone have links where I can buy 2 new/good used ones? I need them or else I can't play.
if it's behind the axle I recommend the 38 gal replacement steel tank from J.C. Whitney. It's made by a Canadian company and worked well for me. The 38 gal. requires moving the spare tire.
I'm curious about available aux fuel tanks as well. My F250 has two of them, but they were home made, and look nasty. They each have two bolts through the bed of the truck supporting them and I'd like to replace everything with a pair of factory saddle tanks, or a single frame mount tank.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 02:21 PM (EST)]hey EquineGuy, i have the a frame mount gas tank, from my 79 f250 that i will not be using. if your interested give me an email at TeamWizardL7(No Email Addresses In Posts!).

I have to find out if mine has that emmisions fitting or not. I know it has 2 hoses to the tank. Fill hose and a 1/2" hose riding next to it. Just want to make sure I get the right tank.
FYI, the supercab tanks are different from the tanks used in regular cab trucks. I bought a new tank for my supercab only to find out it didn't fit. Supercab tanks are 19 gal. There are two tanks for regular cab trucks: A) 20.2 gal. w/emisions hole(vent pipe toward front of truck). B) 22.5 gal. w/o emissions (vent pipe toward rear of truck). This info comes from the LMC Truck catalog and my own personal expieriences(4 different parts stores). The rear tanks are the same, however.AFIK no one makes new tank straps for the side mount tank, only the rear tank. I spent 2.5 hours on my back removing mine . Got them off without wrecking them.
On my '79 there's metal pipe (vapor line) that runs along the passenger side frame rail, it's a about a foot and a half behind the cab - there should be a rubber line where a second fitting from the AUX tank would / could meet it - easiest way to determine if you need the vapor vent / rollover valve is to see if that above mentioned line runs to your carbon canister - if you have one.

Hey Bear,
I was thinking about putting the larger tank in my 77 F350 Supercab but I need to carry the spare while I have a slide-in camper. What did you do with your spare? Any ideas from anyone else?
Thanks,
