I have a leak in my rear tank and it needs to be replaced. I am toying with the idea of making my rig a flatbed. When I do it, I want to have mount a storage boxes between my rear tire and the cab mounted under each side of the flatbed. Then I got to thinking, I wonder if a guy can use two fuel tanks like the ones off a 5 ton with the steps in them and actually use them as the fuel tanks. For our rigs the fuel pump is on the engine correct? It's not in the tanks is it? I was thinking that as long as I have the tank attachments and valves for the tanks that I get, I can splice them into the fuel and return lines. Is this possible? Thanks for the help.
You could do that or there are 38 gallon tank available to replace the rear tank. You could increase the capacity but would have to place the spare elswhere. You would then still have the sides for boxes.
yesterday i found out my front tank had a small leak. i started trying to clean it and braze it, but the more i messed with it the worse it got. today i found a like new 17 gallon tank to replace the 19 gallon tank that was on the truck. if you use the saddle tanks will you have a fuel guage? my truck had a flat bed and i am installing a dump bed. they work like a flat bed only better. i bought the bed and hoist off a parts truck for 150.00 and for very little effort and money i now have a nice dump bed. oh i also sold by diamond plate flatbed for 350.00, so really i will have nothing in my dump.
450.00 us is not in my future for a diesel tank. i got a like new 17 gallon tank at a local junk yard for 75.00 and it didn't have a speck of rust inside. the front tank on my truck was 19 gallons. the smaller tank fit perfectly.
As I remember I bought mine from a local radiator shop for 200 dollars each. 22 gallon front tank, 44 gallon rear tank both made of steel. I think the 38 gallon 450 dollar tank is plastic.
Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will start looking around and see if I can get a good used one. Even with the Can dollar not to bad right now, 450 us is still out of my range. Thanks again for the help.
