Hey I was wanting to get some info on these UD pulley kits? Just tryin to do some research, will the investment be worth it? Anyone know what brands are out there and what the differences are?
I haven't tried them, but I know that some do like them.
Personally, I don't think they would make much difference. And, if they did, it probably would be so little that it wouldn't be worth the cost and effort, not to mention the risk that one of the driven systems wouldn't be adequate.
I wouldn't feel comfortable slowing the water pump or the power steering pump. The A/C would be off if I wanted max performance. The fan de-clutches. That leaves the alternator, which isn't taking much HP unless there is a big electrical draw or the battery is drained. So, where's the big HP gain?
i have a set. i have yet to install them. just have not had the time. from the research i did. most people seen a small performance increase at mid rpms and a little bit more at high rpm. cost on a set of underdrive pullies will run from 100.00 to 170.00. i got mine of ebay for 135.00 shipped. i went with bbk. i felt like they would make a good set that would not hurt any of the factory parts of the motor.
plus, if you are like me. your want to do any and everything you can to your truck to make it better. even if it is just by a small amount. good luck making up your mind.
old thread, did they make a difference?
I'm looking at the BBK, but it says the crankshaft and water pump nose cones aren't included....do i need these? can i use the old ones? does anyone sell polished Al ones? I can't find them... and i see the A/C pulley isn't included....does anyone sell that?
TIA.
I have never seen a set of pulleys ( UD) that included a A/C pully, but I havn't looked everywhere. I have had 3 sets but none on a Ford truck. All have been on GM trucks in a former life...HA HA. Never had a cooling problem but did have a small charging problem on a 4.3l V6 with toons of stereo equip. None of the trucks ( 1 GM 4.3 and 2 GM 5.7's) had a significant low end torque gain but mid range and high end they would scream and pass everything but the gas station. I now have a 1999 4.6 and have only found 2 sets, both with 3 pulleys. Alt., waterpump, and crank. I dont think you need the water pump nosecone because of the fan threads. I may be wrong because I havn't looked in a few days and my short term memory sucks. I know that you need one on a car due to e-fans. I hope to purchase a set for my truck in the near future. The 2 sets that I found were at summit and jegs. summit's were pollished and jegs were black.
