Just rebuilt my holley carb (1850 or 4160) put it on my 351m and it hesitates off the start but after about 30ft it has *****. when i adjust the air and fuel mixture it tends to backfire out the carb. does anyone else have this carb and if so how much should i adjust the mixture? i know its not a good quality carb but i need it to get me by for a couple of months. i also noticed that the secondary diaphram is dry. thanks for any help
Fordman, Check the adjustment of your throttle linkage in relation to the accelerator pump. The slightest movement of the linkage should start the downward motion of the pump shaft. If it does not move immediately, you will be dumping air into the engine and no fuel, thus causing a dead spot or bog off idle. Sometimes it takes a little playiung to get it just right. Also check your choke adjustment. Did you change jet sizes? This can cause similar problems as well. Just a thought, good luck FOMOGO
I spent the past 1 1/2 years trying to get the timing right. if it was the timing the engine would run really rough and right now it runs smooth. just at takeoff it tends to sputter and the deal with throttle opening and suckin air sound perfect.
How about your vacuum diaphram? Are you sure it's working? I had a bad diaphram on one of my 390's...started out fine for the first five feet, then bogged for a second or two, then ran like hell!
