Carb tuneing

I had a edelbrock 750 cfm carb sitting on a bored and cammed ford 400. When i try to adjust the mixture i can screw both of the mixture screws in all the way and the truck will just sit there and run? I cant get the damn thing tuned and i was wondering if that might be to big of a carb and that's what causing this? Any ideas?

My 400 used to have a 780 Holley on it. It was bored a little and cammed up. That carbeurator was way too much for it and ran like a total piece of crap.

B93, Have you ever hooked up a vacuum gauge to your engine? If it is between5- 8 inches it is too low. If your cam has too much overlap that is one of the symptoms. You can try calling Edelbrock's Technical service and let them know which cam,intake manifold,timing,exhaust and whether it is manual or automatic along with the converter if equipped. If the manifold vacuum is too low it is causing the power valve springs to raise up the metering rods and dump more fuel into the manifold. That is why you can close the idle metering screws. X2....for a proper tune a vacuum gauge is a must have tool IMO
