This is a strange one...or, at least the dealer says it is. Three times in the last month, for a period of about three seconds or so, the power steering just goes out (becomes very difficult to steer) while driving. Fortunately, it has not ocurred while turning or during highway driving. The dealer has the truck now and says they don't show a failure on the computer and have been unable to duplicate the problem during test drives. I seem to be driving a time-bomb! Especially, if the dealer takes no action to resolve. If anyone has a suggestion, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Was it wet out when it happened? If so, could be the belt. Also, there is a plastic collar at the top of the steering box, where the shaft comes down. It could be out of place, catching the knuckle joint and binding. I had the problem recently, wifey was not amused coming up our squirley hill fighting the truck. Did it to me a couple of times too, an unnerving event. I put a belt on it and haven't had the probem since, knock on wood.
I've been having the same problem. It seems to happen more when I first start up the truck. When it does happen I turn the wheel hard left then right and the problem goes away. Kinda makes me nervous too. Where can I find this knuckle that might be binding? I'm surprised more people haven't had this problem. Thanks
There is a pressure switch on the pump. It'd have it tested. It may be in need of replacement. On our '88 my dad forgot to plug it back in when he changed the steering box, and then drove from indiana to kansas and back before he found it.
