Well the old man must be senile cause he told my buddy that it was a 427 cammer. I got the casting #'s D8AE-A1A. I dont know if those #s will help or not. Let me know what the #s stand for. I have never seen a 427 in person some of you older guys on here prob have, im only 17 so I wasnt around when they produced them.
That casting number doesn't make sense where did you get it from IE the block, heads, intake etc? are you sure it's not D3VE or if on the block D9TE those would make sense, and I could give you a little info maybe. If the block casting number is a D9TE then it's a later model externally balanced 460 most likely (although some of the medium duty trucks had 429s using that block too)
actually the cammer was mid 60s like 64 if my memory serves correctly but your right on about the rest of it. another major tip off is the placement of the spark plugs OHC engines put the plugs on the intake side of hte head those are between the exhaust ports.
The first cammer protypes were 64 and production was 65 and up. D8AE is a 78 casting but the blocks date code will tell the exact born on date. Could be the old guy thought it was indeed a cammer or just ripped on the kid. Who knows. Still even though it's not a FE 427 cammer it might be a nice engine to rebuild. I hope so anyway for the owners sake. Welcome to the world of part deception. Everything on ebay these days either came off a 427 or 428CJ it seems. You really need to know what your looking at before any cash changes hands. I speak from experience on this as I'm sure others do also. Things are not the same anymore.......
As for the rest too bad for the kid, it would have been nice for sure. Well maybe he can do something cool with the block now that he has it. What's the block gonna go in???

Well I told my bud the news and he was pissed for a bit, cant really be mad I guess since he nor I new anything about this engine. I was on ebay searching for stuff on the 427 sohc and they had some bearings up for sell, but in the listing they said Jim Dove is currently making a complete Aluminun 427 SOHC from original Ford tooling that Jim Dove purchased from Ford years ago. Maybe ill tell that to my buddy and cheer him up for a little bit till he sees the price on it. I will try and finded some diff #s on the engine and post back so he can find out what it is.
Well sorry to hear it turned out like it did..but Look on the bright side..a lesson learned..and yeah Dove makes a good block if you have deep pockets!!
Don't feel bad things happen to everyone like this just use it as a lesson, and get all the info possible on what your looking for before you go look at it. Something like a cammer anyone that calls it that probably has a pretty good idea what it's really worth and aren't gonna sell it for $250. About the only time you will find a deal like that is if hte seller has no idea what it is, case in point went to a garage sale with a friend as they listed having a bunch of ford parts there well sitting on the floor in the middle of the garage was a pair of Boss 9 heads and Jeff asked the guy how much, and he said $100 since they were just the old heads off his late sons old motor that came from the mustang he had wrecked that killed him (the kid had put a different engine in to the car to rebuild the boss 9 and never got it finished) he didn't know where the rest of the engine was like the block but just wanted that junk out of there because seeing it upset his wife so that was all he wanted for it. The old guy didn't know nor did he care what they were just make them go away.
I rode in a car the other day with a 427 cammer in it. It filled the engine compartment and was the meanest engine I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The guy said he got it for $14K and had to rebuild it from there. It was awesome but I think the guy had more money in that car than I've got in my house.
Well heres what I found out. My buddy said the guy isnt even his grandpas friend he just said that cause they used to work together along time ago and things went sour and his grandpa said he hasnt talked to the guy in years. When his grandpa came over to look at what he bought hes said he is almost sure its a 351m So my bud said his grandpa and him loaded the engine in his truck and took it back to this guy and got in a pretty heated argument, and got his money back. The guys wife had the nerve to call the cops on them.
Well I'am glad there is a happy ending to the story...Monday morning quarter backing here..when yeah run across a motor you might be interested in..post some pics and some ID #'s..it might save alot of headache's..... JMO..

That a good idea but whoever should email me a telephone number so I get the first crack at a deal. I wouldn't want Greg, Russ, or G flashing their money.
