engine change

engine change

hi everyone

I am preparing myself for the winter and i am still not sure what to do , i am putting a 429 in my 56 mercury m-100 and i am keeping the solid front axel but a droop one, i am planning to fabricate a crossmember for the engine mount but i am still not sure about the oil pan, does somebody know if i have to put a front or a rear oil pan.

I have no idea but I just hated seeing your post set with no replies! Welcome aboard! I'm sure someone here has done this one and will have some pointers for you soon!

I am sure you will need a rear sump - but I have never done it so you had better wait for aomeone who knows more than me. I will say that most of the posts about switching to a V8 indicate a rear sump is required.

Not many keep the original suspension/steering - but I like it and would myself. I expect you will want power steering for it, as well as a set of disk brakes.

Be a nice winter's project - and a near ride when you are done! What sort of tranny you going to run?

I got the mecanic out of a 1968 ford thunderbird, 429+ c6+ 9.5 rearaxel .
I already bought power steering and disk brake and found a automatic steering column.
COOL.
the engine is gone for the overhaul of 500+ HP

Most of the sump problems come with IFS conversions where the crossmember runs under the engine. With the stock suspension/straight axle there is no crossmenber under the engine so almost any pan should work.

500 HP in a pickup should spin the tires at idle!

When I put the 500ci Caddy in my 49 I opted to go for the rear sump pan as insurance. With the front sump pan it looked like if I bottomed the suspension the axle would hit the pan.
Set it all in place and see what it looks like, you might get lucky

I put a 460 in my 58 and the front sump cleared the axle just fine.
