I have a 90 big Bronco with a 351 and E4OD. I've been having problems with the shifting recently, first it wouldn't shift out of 1st. Then one day it started shifting out of first into 2nd, but wouldn't go past there, now it's shifting into 3rd and OD. Until it gets hot, then the check engine light will come on and it won't come out of 1st again. But when it's cold it shifts so smooth I can't tell it's shifting. Problems only occur when it's hot. A friend of mine said there may be a clog or in there and the tranny fluid is slowly cleaning it out, which might explain why it's shifting better now. When I got the truck it was a wreck, the pan was missing and the tranny was filthy with dirt etc. I cleaned it all up and put a new pan on etc.
I changed the fluid and filter, the more I try to drive it the better it shifts.
Any idea's would really help me out, I think the tranny is fine, there's a sensor or something somewhere I'm missing. I've replaced the selenoid pack, plus put in a new MLPS with the new connector.
I just wanted to add some information. The Bronco is a 90, but it's got a 96 motor in it. I had to switch a lot of stuff from the 90 so it would work, the only thing that I couldn't make work was one emmision component coming off of the back of the heads, the 96 doesn't use that and the 90 did. Would that have any significance with my problem? Thanks again.
