I'd say Dodge 3500 Cummins. (hemi's an underpowered joke.) Not a Big Dodge fan but the Chev sucks. Though if I bought a gas truck I'd probably say the Chev.
Not sure we're talking the same t-case. The one I had also had a 2H position , and along with manual front hubs allowed 2WD. I had no problems with it in 60k miles, a lot of light off road and much winter heavy snow driving. ???
I've never seen a late 70's Dodge 4x4 with a part-time transfer case. At least not W-100 or 200 models. Mabye the W-300 came in p/t, but I'm 99% sure it would have had a NP-205 then. The NP-205 has 2H, N, 4H, 4L positions, but no 4-Lock.
Maybe you had a p/t modified 203? Did you buy it new?

Yes, bought it new - V8/4 speed manual, 2 speed transfer case, manual hubs.
Transfer case had 4L, N, 4H, 4HL positions. According to the owner's manual, the 4H position used an LS differential in the transfer case that was locked up in 4HL. Sure was sweet, being able to run in 4H on the highway when ice/snow was interspersed with bare spots.
I had a thread like this a long time ago in the gen auto forum.
1970 chevy half ton, black, reg cab long bed, 454, In mint condition only.
I wouldnt pay money for a rebuilt tranny, and the rest of the truck is going to fall apart, thank the savior I got a great engine...one less thing I gotta fix down the road.
Well i will ALWAYS be a ford truck, suv, car, minivan guy but if i had to chose and the there was none other option i would pick chevy, problly the 05 silverado. Drove it a while back and it was pretty nice for even a rental.
Well I have to say Dodge since I own a '95 Ram 1500 with the 5.2L. I love the truck. As compared to my father's '03 Bow Tie, well, his is 8 years newer. It does ride better (he has an extended cab long bed 4x4 vs. my regular cab 4x2 long bed) than my truck, it is quieter than my truck, has a nicer interior, etc., etc. That said, I attribute that to the changes in technology over the 8 years.
The question you need to ask yourself is do you want an "in your face" Ram or a conservative Chevrolet? I'd go for a Ram myself. My father and brother-in-law are now Chevy guys.
I am the lone Ford family man left and will never let them change me. Just wait until I get my F-250!
