Oh, no I'm doing a complete restoration. It will be perfect when I'm done. What do you guys think about a charcoal grey color? I was origionally planning on red with ghost flames but I'm not sure anymore. We just painted a 94 red Camaro and did ghost flames and it is AWESOME!!! We then sanded and buffed the edges so that you can't feel an edge between colors. Simply amazing!
Also, I'm no ricer but I do have an import so don't be hating too bad. My car will take down its share of big V8s and it's only a 1.8L.
I was just stating that no matter the condition, you can still have fun. I'm sure you will have a very nice truck. Charcoal grey like on the Gen 2 Lightnings? If so that is an awesome color. I'm not sure sure how a red ghost flame would look on a charcoal grey.
Not hating on your import. Yours sounds to me like it is a "tuner car", or that's what I call the imports that actually have something going for them. Your car could probably take down my truck with your turbo. Good luck with the project.
WillyB:I'm sorry. I was really excited to talk about my project again and if no one wants to hear about the engine, then I won't talk about it. I have plenty of other stuff to talk about anyways. However, if the rules require Ford only, then why do you have tech articles on how to install a latemodel GM front clip on a Ford, and then continue through the article describing the desirable steps to take to mount your GM motor o it? Seems somewhat contradictory to your statement but I am new here and I don't want to cause any problems so I will roll with it.
Thanks for the heads up and I'm glad to be here.
hotrod48: I see what you mean. I was just playing around about the import thing...it doesn't bother me. For the paint, I was meaning either the grey alone (no flames) OR the whole truck red with ghost flames. This way the flames would be very subtle.

I don't mind hearing about your engine, but that's me and I don't make the rules so I will try to follow them too. I too, get excited and like to talk about my projects a little too much.
It's kind of hard to interject sarcasm on forums. I love flames and ghost flames are cool but my flames aren't very subtle.
They are not my rules - I am an indian just like the rest of us. I guess someone goofed if the technical article talks of mounting a GM engine in a Ford Truck. Likely no one who cares about it read the article - they are off selling new Fords! (including crate engines). Most people don't care what you run (I don't) but we do not want to draw extra scrutiny to this forum, do we?
I like the grey color myself, and the red flames will sure set it off.

Understandable. However, I am interested in what late model Ford engine swaps some of the users have done. The 4.6 comes to my mind initially and as I said, it was my original plan but I couldn't find a decently priced wrecked mustang. What about the engine form the Lightning? I don't know much about it (I'm guessing it's a 5.xxL) but it seems like a likely candidate for a modern engine swap. I would even consider it now if I could find one at a decent price. I love forced induction!

6.0 Liter PSD would be a fine choice but know one on here has done it yet. Make freinds with an auto insurance claims adjuster. I have a cousin who worked as an adjuster and he was able to help my father locate a new engine for my sister's car from a wreck when we were younger. Seem to remember it was a real deal.

We run a body shop and we have contacts with dealers licenses so we scout out the slavage and wrecking yards from Montana to Missouri so I have just about as good of hookups as you can get. Sorry for the ignorance, but what is the 6.0 PSD out of?
6.0 Power Stroke Diesel - 2003 through 2006 F-250's, F-350's through at least F-550. Very fast and enough torque to pull a freight train. For less than $500.00, an aftermarket chip will make it even hotter. You could check out the 6.0 liter diesel forum for more information on the enigne. I have one in my 03 F-250 and I love it.
At 42, I'm doing my first serious rebuild of a truck and I'm starting with a basketcase. Truck was too rough to spend the money on PSD (Power Stroke Diesel) for this build. I have a 49 F2 that is in too good of shape to do anything but go back with a flathead, so the diesel idea will have to wait until truck #3. By the time I get to it, the price on those things will have come down to an afforadble level and everyting should work out just fine - I hope.
I was kinda kidding when I suggested it to you but if you are open to other ideas and want to be different, it would be an attention getter and it would be fast. Others have done diesels, I just don't know of anyone who's done one with this diesel. It would require substantial suspension mods to make it work safely.
In 03, the Engine was rated at 325HP at 3300 rpm and 560 lb-ft of Torque at 2000 RPM - bone stock. The chips will add significantly to these numbers without turning a wrench. And oh-yea, it will get about 20MPG on the highway - if of course, one is able to keep their foot out of the pedal. Maybe more since it would be a much lighter truck.
If you go with the 6.0 PSD, ***** will be your friend again and let you talk about it all you want on here.
And it would make a one heck of a senior design project. Much better than a Mini Baja or Mini Formula Car
