im almost done building up my 5.8, its a 91' block. and its goin in my 88 bronco witha 5.0. now i just wanna make sure of a few things and clear a few others up. by the way its an aod tranny
Ive heard that u need a new starter? is that true?.. i went to auto zone to get a new ecu/ecm and they tell me that i need the part number not the computer code from my 5.0 since im usin its harness for the new 5.8, is it true that in need that e4te****** whatever code for it to work right with my computer, because i was under the inpression that any computer from a 5.8 between the years 86-93 would work fine. also ive done a few things to the motor like a cam, springs, porting, headers, and pistons that yeild a bit higher compression. will this work with my stock SD? should i get a chip burned. switchin to MAF would be nice but is outta the question right now.
You can use a 5.8 PCM with a 5.0 harness. My brother is running an AKC0 PCM (5.8 Lightning mass air PCM) in his 94 F-150 w/5.0 harness and no problems thus far.
And yes, with all of the money you've spend on those parts, I would definately recommend a chip. Is your cam speed density friendly? that will largely determine if a mass air swap is needed.
lol...yea i plan on gettin bettin injectors after i get back from bootcamp. but they'll work fine for breakin it in. but i guess what ur sayin about the computer is that i can use whatever computer i get aslong as its 5.8l from the same years. correct? there arnt many tuning options for my motor, unless i get a different fuel pressure regulator, and other minor things like timing. i was thinkin about havin jet burn me a chip, i was also lookin at a total efi managment system from F.A.S.T.
you need an ecu from a 5.8/c6 combo. you cant use the e4od/5.8 ecu's because they wont get a signal from the tranny. I dont recall any chips being able to be burned for the bronco type ecu's. your setup should run just fine . if you want mass air cheap go here www.fordfuelinjection.com hes got some cheap harness setups that will work.
All GEN 1's Lightnings (93-95) are speed density from the factory. Ford Racing assmebled/sold a mass air conversion for those trucks. The conversion PCM's will also work on many mid/late 90's mass air, F-series pickups, with E4OD's. I've also read where people have used GEN 1 speed density PCM's on their early/mid 90's speed density pickups with E4OD.
You're right though, I bet it will be hard to find a tuner that can program a chip for that particular type. if it were a newer, mass air bronco, then it would be easier.
my point exactly.. but to convert to mass air right now is out of my budget. ive heard about tweecer tho, according to them i can use a gen1 lightnight setup, and for 4**$ or so dollars i might go that route. they do burnem for my setup. i talked toem and its like almost 400..does anyone here have any experience with tweecer?
If you're going the DIY tuing route, then that's a different story.
MANY GEN 1 L owners use Tweecer with great success. There is a bit of a learning curve though if you've never done any tuning on your own. If you're going to do that, I would suggest investing in a wideband O2 and an in-cab fuel pressure gauge. It's a little more up front, but you'd just be tuning in the dark without them.
ive decided to just get a computer and have a chip burned, but now my problem is, is that theres like 10 different computers available for the 88 5.8l from autozone, and i dont have a clue as to what the computer in the donor f250 was and i cant get it, can i just pick one. and the prices vary between 94-168$ so what should i do?
