What I mean is like when I replaced the a/c blower on my old truck I put permatex on it when I replaced it. This sealed between the screws and everywhere that there could have been a leak. I was thinking of doing this around the valve every where else (not the orings).
Note the two orings with what apears to be paint on them. They are 1/2"OD X 1/4"ID and cost about .50 cents each at a plumbing supply store.
I ordered the kit from BCD. I was thinking that they would be metric orings. Does any one know if this is the size they are? Should I just wait for the kit to come in. The leak is getting worse...
Thanks so much SpringerPop. I'll have to run down to the home depot and get some then. I might have to wait a while to get that order from BCD considering the holidays are upon us. I was also told of a ratchet made by stanely that also works by twisting the handle makes it really easy to get those 4 #20 torx out of there. I'll check it out.
The kit from BCD came in today. Took me 45 minutes to get them in. Now there is no leak!! The orings are metric and are thicker than the Danco#90. No one had them locally (no #90 either), so I advise everyone who needs them- just get them from BCD! 100% perfect!!!
Hey, no offense Pop- I went looking for the Danco #90s and if they would have had them anywhere, I would have bought them and put them in. Getting the leak stopped was my main priority. However, since I couldn't get them anywhere I had to wait for the ones I ordered. Once I got them, I miked the old ones and new ones just to know for sure cuz I figured since everything on the truck was metric, the orings had to be too.
I am new to diesels and have some questions. My 2000 Excursion just started to leak out of the tube that you guys are talking about. I replaced the fuel filter about a month ago, Truck has 116,000 miles on it. I see the kit you are talking about, can't I buy this at the Ford dealer or auto parts store? what is its purpose anyway? Thanks for the help.
The valve is used to drain the fuel when when you replace the filter. No auto part store carries the right orings, and the dealer will only sell you the entire assembly (around $300). You can try and hunt down the Danco #90 orings that Pop suggested. I would have but couldnt find them anywhere.
If you have not got the time to get the yellow ones, and you have a Home Depot close, look in their individually-packaged o-ring drawer section for a UPC number 037155-358700. That's a Danco #90. 1/2" x 1/4" x 1/8".
Ask at their Pro Desk how many their computer system shows should be in stock, and ask for help finding them.
Wish I had the Home Depot SKU number for you, but they can look it up with the UPC.
Print this out and take it with you.
Then, you're going to need a torx driver to remove the screws that hold the valve together.

I have to jump in here, I have a 99 7.3, and Ive noticed the smell of unburnt diesel for a while, but never gave it too much thought. recently I notice a little smoke from in the front of the truck in the morining as Im sitting at a stoplights. So I have determined I might have a fuel leak Where should I check first? Are there common places that would tend to leak more? Thanks, Im off to search
