Reason: remove parts for sale
it will bolt to the leaf springs just fine but you may have a different u-joint and or drive shaft length. You should be able to find a 9 inch for your truck and I would much rather stay with a 9 inch myself over the 8.8.
THe rearend in it now is a 8.8 but it came out of a linclon conitintal so the gears are high I have a 390 and I have to slip the clutch to take off in the granny 1 st
Now I am lost because the car axle will or should be a coil spring axle not a leaf spring axle. So is the axle the complete set up from the car or just the gears? Are you asking if just the gears can be swapped? If so then yes the gears can be swapped but the truck axle will be a 31 spline axle and the car will be a 28 spline axle carrier.
I dont know that is what i was told it was from the car the whole rear end but the rear end I am putting in it has 4 11 or 410 something like that I am not for sure I was told that it would gear the truck back down right. The rear end that in the 78 right is shout it has a broken axle a a crack in the house so it was dumpping fluid before It lost the left side axle.
If you have a complete axle then you should be fine.
Now that I think about it the car axle would have the smaller lug pattern for the wheels, 5 on 4.5 and the truck is 5 on 5. So make sure your wheels will fit on the truck axle which they should. I doubt any one went through the trouble to swap a car axle and change the rear wheels. One would have to carry two spares.
Unless you do a lot of towing a 4.10 gear may be a bit much. It will be a very large step from the 2.?? you have now. If you have a taller than stock tire you may be okay but if you have a DD truck a 3.25 or a 3.55 would be a better choice.
Thanks I am taking the wheels off of my recked truck any ways so I should be find but Like you said 9 inch is better but this will have to do untill my budget increases thank for the infor probally will swap them out tomorrow
