I have a 89 F-150 4X4 . my problem is that it keeps blowing fuses for the brake lights , I have follwed the wires from the brake lights to the cab, I did not find ant bad wiring . I have replaced the brake light switch. Still have the problem , anyone have any other ideas? Thanks for any info.

This is my first posting here - I had an 82 Bronco with the same problem . I eventually found that the fuse was blowing as the shifter passed through reverse on the way to drive .( My backup lights had not worked for a while either) .It turned out that my neutral safety/backup light switch on the transmission was bad .

does it blow immediatly after hitting the brakes with the new fuse in ? or does it take a long hold or several brake cycles ? if it goes instantly, you know you got a short. if slow, you got high resistance. could be socket corrosion, bad connection, got any stretched wires leaning on metal ? all it takes is a pinhole hit...

my problem was the nuetral safety switch on the trans . The brake lights and the backup lights used the same fuse and when the shifter hit reverse it would short out and blow the fuse ( not every time but that was the problem and it had nothing to do with the brake lihgts accept that they shared the fuse ) that was my truck yours may be an entirely different fix .

I think ( and hope) I found the problem. On the brake light switch, the wires had a bad bend in them . I replaced the plug in and have not blown a fuse yet . I has been 3 days so far so good
Thanxs for all the info, it was the first time i have ever posted anything on here.
