cloths dryer problem

It a Kenmore, and its 7 year old, 220 volt electric dryer. It takes about 2 hours to dry a load of cloths. It has a heater element, thermal fuse, thermostat 250 degrees. Dryer heats to 210 inside the empty drum, only while the heating element is on. The cycle is it heats for 20 seconds ( heating element turns red ) then the element cools off, then heats up ( turns red again ) after 3 minutes. The dryer vent and screen is clean of lint. I think it use to take about 50 Min's. to dry a full load of cloths, when the dryer was new. I see the thermostat should go to 250 F, maybe its a bad thermostat? What does the thermal fuse do?

My wife had the same problem... What I found was the vent tube was clogged about half way to the outside vent. It didn't have any air flow. I found it when I re-located the vent system. Try disconnecting the drier and run a sewer snake or a large brush down the tube....jusy my $.02

oures is doing the same but it still take the same time to drie the clothes but they come out wet and on other days it dryes them compeatly i think is the element but the drier is almost 50yrs old so we will just replace the whole dryer
