In the cold winters here my tranny (C6) seems to need a little extra time in the morning to shift into drive. It will go into reverse just fine, but I often find myself waiting a minute or two for the foreward gears to engage. When the truck is warm it runs just fine. Should I be concerned? Is it a sign of something worse, or is my truck just angry that it is cold?
When was the tranny last rebuilt? My C4 went south a few years ago. Seems to be a precursor to needing a rebuild. The seals within the tranny aren't working untill the fluid builds up in temp causing the seals to expand. I can't eleborate any more other than I'd start looking around for a replacement soon. Not the news you wanted to hear. I'd start by simply checking the fluid level.
The truck has 140,000 original (rough) miles on it and before I owned it, the tranny had never been touched. I replaced the fluid and filter when I bought it with 100,000 miles. The time to engage into drive is exactly correlated with the temperature outside. A c6 tranny can be found just about anywhere, Good weekend project (he he). Thanks for the help.
I'm no expert here, but my C6 was doing the same thing recently. Knowing nothing about anything, I took it to a local shop, who said the kick-down cable had come off. They put it back and it works fine now.
mine done the same thing.... it got worse and worse.. I drove it for about a year and finally I would have to wait for about 10 minutes for it to pull... it will get worse... trust me... I bought another and put a b&m shift kit in it.... so I suggest you look for another one.. or have that one rebuilt... (I suggest having it rebuilt by a trusted tranny man)
