I lost both the headlight switch light and one side of the lights for the cruise control on my 2004 FX4 Level II. Had them both replaced under warranty while I was working at a dealership. Seems to be problematic of these switches from what I have read.
Does your headlight switch illumination only work when the key is in the start or run position, AND with the park or headlights turned off? Or is there headlight switch illumination regardless of the ignition key position and when the switch is in the parking or headlights on position? The schematic I'm looking at for a 2004 indicates the former. Seems rather odd.
My 2002 XLT came with the map lights, glove box light, cargo light and the headlight switch was lit when i bought it. The bulb in the headlight switch burned out shortly after i bought it and i didn't even realize it did that till my warranty was up after driving my freinds ranger one day and noticing that his worked. I plan on soldering a new bulb in the assembly when i pull the dash apart to replace the dash light that burned out behind half my speedometer which is driving my nuts.
It always amazes me you have to pull the entire dash to replace those stupid little dash lights. The auto manufacturers know they are gonna burn out sooner or later, why don't they leave it easier to get to so we can do it without wasting our money on letting them do it.
