I've got a problem. My 1977 F-250 shifts waaay too early. At full throttle it will shift at about 2500 RPM, no matter what. At partial throttle around town it's in third by 15 MPH. Shifting it manually is getting really, really old. Any ideas on what's wrong? Vacum leak to the modulator? ECT ECT ECT. Any help is appreciated.
Brady.
I am not an expert on transmissions but I think part throttle shifts are controlled mainly by the modulator and full throttle shifts are controlled by the governor if everything is working right. As already suggested you might want to try a fluid change.
I had the same problem with my 76 F250. All I had to do was adjust the vacuum modulator just off the transmission. It changed the shifting by 10 miles an hour.
Just another thought, make sure your vacuum hose to the modulator is in good shape.
Pull the hose off the end of the modulator and look for a real small screwhead inside.Take a screwdriver and turn clockwise.Don't get crazy, just turn a little at a time until you get it the way you want it.Had to do the same thing to the c6 behind my 390.
