When you did the weights. Did you have all your stuff for camping in it. If not, 1000 lbs doesn't take long to reach. especially passengers. I weighed mine and the extra stuff weighed in at 1500 lbs. plus passengers. Won't go there ( wife and son might see).

Weigheg mine on the way out to our favorite state park. Weight included groceries, full tank of fuel in truck, bikes, my wife and me. Since we normally stay at parks with Water and electric connections, no onboard water and dump my holding tanks before leaving park.

I was really surprised too! My Hitchhiker II 26.5 LS (LS = light weight series) was supposed to have an ULVW (unloaded vehicle weight) of ~7500# and with gear and a "traveling load" of 15-20 gallons of water I had 9500#. Still can't figure out where all of that 2000# came from.
Really shows how important it is to get accurate weights so you're dealing with facts rather than guesses.
