any issues with superduties

Im thinking about trading in my 02 ranger for a superduty and was just wondering what i would be getting my self into. I am looking at 4x4 diesels.
The ones i have been looking at have over 100k but i figured there good for atleast 250K.

What kind of maintenance is there on one of these and what kind of problems i might run into? Thanks

After owning a SuperDuty there is nothing else. It is so overbuilt compared to anything else on the road, so roomy inside, effortless thrust from the V10 that makes other vehicles disappear in the generous sized rear view mirrors. Woops, I'm gushing....
We have Rangers at work. They an awesome vehicle that never break, we get an easy 175k miles on them before the frame and body get a little weak. But they are small comapred to the SD. Our Rangers get about 17 mpg (4.0L,auto,4x4, P265's supercab) my SD gets 12 mpg and that's normal driving, city/hwy mix.
If your thinking diesel, better get a credit card. Gas here in MI is $2.03, diesel is $3.49. If you drive much that's quite a spread and something to seriously consider.

Ya tell me about it, here in southern minnesota gas is $2.08 and diesel is $2.60. But i figure the better mpg i would get from the diesel should make up for the cheaper gas with the v10. i have heard the diesels get about 17 or 18 mpg.

Super Duties do have one particularly recurring problem. Do a search on "BSEG".

Take a cruise through the diesel sections for the year you want. You'll find all the info you need to make a decision.
The post about pulling out your wallet sounds like a scare tactic.
The diesel gets better fuel economy than a gasser, with less maintenance required also.
Gasser V10 in the neighborhood of 12 +- and diesel 17+ combined. Currently I'm getting 19.4.

And yes, I have the BSEG problem popping up fairly often.
(you know he's just got to ask)

The SD's are an excellent truck, but they do have some problems. The ESOF system works...and then doesn't work. They are an issue. You will find many threads on that subject.

Many have questioned the LS in the rear. Some do not like that it does not engage soon enough...until you are already stuck anyway.

The 6.0L has had a lot of issues. You should read in that form about them. They are mainly due to reflash issues...and the EGR valve. The turbo's have had there own issues too.

I have read may a thread on the power steering issue. When pressing on the brake and trying to turn the steering wheel...the wheels (steering wheel) does not turn. Have not seen a fix for this one yet.

Whew...I think thats all I can remember right now. Again, these trucks are the best on the road...so do not let what I said scare you away. Just do a lot of reading here on these forms...and you will get the just of the SD.

Good luck with you SD...
