I have no problem hooking up a gm alt, this is my first ford, There are 3 Wires on the harness for the alt The batt, I can figure that one out. I have an orange and black plastic cap. What are these suppose to tie into?? The alt has all kinds of posts sticking out of it. The alt was in a box of parts when I bought the truck I'm not even sure if its the right one
hook up the s terminal to the s terminal on the voltage regulator, the fld to the fld on the volt. reg. , and the big terminal to the positive side of the starter solenoid. the other posts are g or ground not used. i on the volt reg goes to switch power or ignition switch.
the orange wire with orange cap goes right to the voltage regulator the white with black stipe and black cap goes into the main harness and is for the electric choke
the ford alternator has a orange washer and a black washer to insulate the post from the case just hook them up to the coresponding color on the post if there no color on the alt post orange is the feild terminal and black is the stator terminal if there is no marking at all you dont have a ford alt
