AOD Transmission
This question has probably been asked before, but has anyone ever installed a newer AOD transmisson in their truck? I have a 78 with 2.75 gears and would like to get a little more pep coming off the line by changing the gear ratio, but don't want to completely destroy my fuel mileage.
Is this a possible conversion or would I need the entire electronics system from a late model car or truck?

Thanks, I'll try the gears first.
The fuel mileage really can't get too much worse. I only get between twelve and fourteen miles per gallon on the highway and that is if I run premium gas.
I had been thinking about swapping the 302 for a 460 because I didn't think the mileage would be much different. I figured the horsepower difference would more than make up for a couple of miles per gallon, but with gas prices going back up the way they are, I may have to rethink my strategy.
