Shackle flip questions

Looking at some of the galleries here i see there are quite a few shackle flips done...I want to order the shackle kit from sky-manufacturing...My question is has anyone done any towing with this set up...I tow a travel trailer that weighs about 6000 pounds and am wondering if there are a draw backs to the shackle flip in regards to towing.......

i would sell yo my sky flip shackle brackets but you do NOT want to haul with a setup like that. at least with that much weight. you'd have to build some seriously thick shackles to hold up, which can be done but prolly not worth the trouble

that would help some but i would still be hesitant about putting that much weight on them.

if 250lbs is accurate i would say you should have no problems. i would hesitate to haul much more than about 1000lbs. if you ran the beefier shackles you'd be fine

Yeah i think you'd be fine with using the f-450 shackles, as with a load distbuting hitch like you said the tongue weight isn't that bad.

I would however be sure to use a stabilzer bar for the rear suspension. If you don't have one i would hit up the local pick-n-pull and rob one from at least a f-250.

For flex I would recommend the Skyjacker springs out back with a shackle flip. I've got this on my truck and it flexes pretty decent for a leaf spring suspension. In terms of function/durability, keep in mind that lift springs will not handle the same weight as stock springs unless you have them custom made to, in which case they'll ride stiff and won't flex well. They do what they were made for, which is pick up the truck. If you haul heavy loads you're gonna see your springs sagging. If you don't haul anything too heavy then the lift springs/shackle flip are a great combination.

bill, kinda hard to say really, what kind of budget you on? for all around best, 4 link, but if your sticking with leafs, get the softest multi pack you can, that will still hold the weight of the truck. just the way i see it.

Two words AIR BAGS. Air them up when hauling and air them down when playing.
