I have a 2004 F150 completely stock that I have just purchased. I'm wanting to make just cosmetic changes to my truck starting with just bigger tires. I'm very interested in moving down to 15 inch rims and was wondering if anyone had any idea on what size tire would be the biggest I could slide under her without lifting. Thanks for any help yall can offer.
Some one will come along to explain it better, but you can't go smalle than a 17" wheel, because the size of the brakes won't allow it. On the 05's,not sure about your 04, some 17's won't fit because of the brakes also. Just a heads up.
Welcome to FTE Rauly. He had it correct. You cannot run smaller than 17" rims on these trucks. The brakes and rotors will not allow it. You can get larger tires for these bigger rims these days (wasnt always the case).
Well poop I never considered that. Thanks so very much for the heads up on that one. I'm still wondering what size tire would be the biggest I would be able to slide under the truck. I really do appreciate the help.
First question would be why??? Especially if you are lookin to go with bigger tires. I could see it if you were looking to lower the truck and wanted smaller tires. Anyway BlackNtan is correct the wheels simply would not fit due to caliper interference.
There are plenty of 17" custom wheels and tons of tire combinations. I unfortunatly have the 18" wheels on my truck and have found tire selection to be a bit limited.
My truck has the 275's which figure out to a 10.8" wide and 32" tall tire by the math, I have not measured physical size. Stock you may be able to get 33X12.50's but they probably would rub in a full lock turn. If you do a leveling kit you should be able to do 33X12.5's with out a problem, from what I have read. Someone even did 35's but I do not know if they have a rubbing issue.
I was origanly wanting smaller rims for the effect of making my tires appear larger. It was just an idea I was kicking around at first but with the information I'm getting here I have decided to go with the 17" wheels. I'm not wanting to lift the truck but put on a little more rugged tire to make the truck look tough. I'm still considering the 32's so that I don't have any rubbing issues. I appreciate all the information yall have passed!!
Goodyear has a good aggressive tire in the Wrangler MTR that's available in a 275/70/17 (33.8") and 305/70/17 (32.2"). I had a set on my 01 SuperCrew, and thought they were a great tire. They should fit with a leveling kit.

I am not sure what size or how agressive of a tire you were looking for, but if you dont want a leveling kit, or lift kit, you wont be able to go to extreemly big. If you are looking for something very aggressive, then i would go with the tires that "blackntan" said, but if you are looking for a tire that is just a little more aggressive than the factory tires, you should look into the Bridgestone dueler AT REVO. The REVO's are without a doubt some of the best all terrain tires on the market. Not only do they look very aggressive, but they are rated at the top of every forum and website listing that i have every looked at. You should go and check them out at :
They also have all the different sized and measurements and prices for them. Just use all of the tabs on the website to show you all the information that you will ever need
Anybody try Bridgstone Dueller H/P tires on the new F150s? I ran them on my '98 and '02 F150 and they were great for highway use and had really good traction in the rain and on dort as well.
I wasnt doing any towing with them though so I would have to look into load ratings for the H/Ps.
I really do want to think all yall for the information and the help!! I decided to get a good set of Mickey Thompon Baja Radial MTX (32x12.5x17) and new rims. I'm ordering as a set from WWW.TirePackage.com, seems to have very good price breaks. Again I just wanted to thank everyone for the help and hopefully I can get some pictures up so everyone can see the outcome.
Rauly,
That's what I have on my screw (pic in gallery).
I like the tire but like I have always heard about mickys, Don't expect to get much life out of them. At the rate mine are going I expect to get about 30K out of them.
