I tried searching this forum but couldn't find any info. Probably not calling it the right thing.
Anyway...on the back of the second row seats the floor extenders reside for when you fold down the second row and want to make a complete floor. They are held up by a little piece of fabric and velcro. I'm sure my Ex isn't the first to suffer from this flimsy fastening sytem failing. What do I do? My Ex is still under warranty. Will the dealer fix this or is there a better more "permanent" way that still allows access to this floor feature.
Boy they do suck huh! I didn;t have the problems with my 00 like I do my 05.
Anyway, I'm gonna see if I can install snaps. There are kits at Wal-Mart. I just have to make sure that the snap that goes into the back of the seat has a place for the screw that holds it on to dig in to.
It's on my list for tomorrow. I'll let you know.
I don't think the dealer can do much of anything but you can always try.
Chevy uses the same kind of flap, or cover that is hinged to the back of the second row of seats on the Suburban. The purpose is the same as on the Ex, to cover the third row seat footwell and create a flat floor. Big difference in the Chevys is that theirs is MUCH better designed. The hinged panel is held in place at the top of the second row seat by a plastic spring latch that you have to release when you want to fold down the panels. This crappy design was the first thing I noticed when I went from my 1999 Sub to the 2001 Ex. Luckly it is the one of the only things I can say that was better on the Chevy.
i used 3, 1" drywall scres to attach the flap to the seat (the stiching was beginning to cmome apart) and then used a snap kit. the male part of the snap had a 1" screw on it. fortunatley i hit some kind of backing material on the seat so it has held pretty well. the set is very thick so using 1" screws posed no problems.
After I saw the response on the suggestion of snaps...the Durango I traded for this Ex had just that type of fastening system for this same feature. I had totally forgotten about it until the reply.
I am going to try and attach the snap system to this and i will let you know. I figure I can screw the male part of the snap to the "floor board" flap and then fasten the female "button" part to the fabric flap. I will probably use two snaps on the larger board part due to the weight.
I will let you know how it turns out. If I can i will snap some photos. It probably won't be for a week or so.
I had a 99 Expedition. It had real nice push on-push open fasteners. I've looked, and I don't see a reason that they cannot go on the Excursion seats. I'll be buying them in about two weeks when I get up enough money for the mega buy of accessories that I will be doing for the Excursion.
If I can remember, I'll let you know how it worked out.
