Ok, you're only asking for Stihls BIGGEST one man model produced. if you go to mexico, you can still get an 070, then just pick up an 090 cylinder and piston, and stick that right on wihtout any problem.

Thought the biggest one you could buy right now was the 880?

The 090 was BEFORE the 088, it was built originally as the Contra S model, which is the same exact saw, jsut built from the mid 60's through the 70 I think, then the 090 came out. the regular contra has a displacment of 103CC which is the 070 displacment. the way to tell the 070/090 apart, is the 070, has a 3 shoe clutch, while the 090 has a 6 shoe, and the 090 naturally has a larger bore than the 070. other than that, they're EXACTLY identical. btw, before the 088, was the 084. not so sure on info on that one.

This is all just off the top of my head too. Ask me the displacment of ANY stihl saw produced, I can tell you what it is off the top of my head with no books involved.

jd--cant get the return feature on the pm to work--the reason i say--want to cut thru a 52 inch ash--to make a harvest table out of--might take some hp!! 088 is 121 cc--090 is 137 cc--some say just enough more hp that it doesnt pull as hard--easier on the chainsaw---

Go with an MS880, and dont sweat it, they have about the same HP ratings in reality, although the 090 claims 13HP, its on a different rating system from the current system, which is actually more accurate. also, the 090 is harder to get parts for and doesnt quite have as good of a filter system either.

the 088 is still a beast. i don't think u'll have a problem cutting thru anything with it. We've cut some trees down at work withit that are absolutely enourmous with it. It's never given us any problems.
