I got the news today
The news is that on dec.2nd of 2005 ill be steping up in rate.I have worked very hard for ths moment and its finley here.
I was supprised, the navy doesnt hand these out every day.
To make E9 in the navy is somthing to behold. Its tooken me 18 years.
Ill have the honor of being 1 of 4 Master Cheifs on base, but there is a down side.
I now have a new posting, as an aid to the base xo.
I hate to leve the flight crew that i have been a part of for five years, but thats the way the cookie crumbles.
Ive known the the base xo for 10 years, long before he was a commander.I was on his crew for about three years.Im thinking he might have had somthing to do with this because he just got the job about three months ago,and gave up a posting in England.
Maybe i should not worry, ive been through this before.

My late Dad was an E7 AEC when he retired in 1971 after over 20 years (enlisted in 1949). Managed to reach that pretty quickly wayyyyy back in the early 50s. The opportunities were good then if you were in aviation, I guess. Could have made Senior Chief (E 8) later on, at one point, but there were no opennings in his rating.
So, like you said, only so many promotions available within a rating (specialty) if you are in the Navy. You can pass the tests, be extremely qualified but unless there was an openning, you were stuck. But that has always been the case with the Navy.
So, yeah, you just might be right about the Commander helping out. You taught him well about who really runs things. The Chiefs.
Congratulations Master Chief
