Well I usually take them to work and press them out But pop off both retaining clips. Then take your least favorite socket, of the correct size to just fit in on top of the ujoint cap. Then take a BFH, big xxx hammer, and gently persuade it back and forth, by swapping the socket from side to side, till it pops out.
Also a good soaking of penetrating fluid might help some.
The best way I've found is lay one set of the ears crossways in a vise with just the caps resting on the vise, then smack the other shaft right behind the cap. Its kinda hard to explain but once you've seen it done its really trick. It works better than a press and is quicker to. The only thing that spooks me a little is maybe something breaking but I've did it for years and I've never broke one yet.
I use a big vise with a piece of flat steel bent into a u shape just bigger than the bearing cap, and my "least favorite socket" that fits perfect. I put the socket on one side, and the flat rolled steel on the otherI then use the vice to press the u-joint out (I have a vise that has a mouth that opens up to like 10" so it might not work too well on smaller vices.
