Taking the Injector Plunge

I think I'm about ready to take the plunge and put some new injectors in this beast. The ones that are in it (all but 2) have over 200K on them. I'm experiencing some missing at idle, and I don't think I'm getting the power that I should be. So, I'm thinking Bean's Stage 1's and a chip. I've read the instructions that Bean's has on their website, and I'm confident that I can get it done myself. I also plan to replace any pre-heaters that have gone bad (pretty sure that I have at least one bad one). My question is this: do any of you that have done this have any advice to offer? Any warnings, or any suggestions on what else I might do while I have it down?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you get all the oil/ fuel out of cylinders before you put everything back together. If you dont do this you risk hydralocking the engine and bending a rod. When i change injectors i use a little syringe with a rubber hose on the end to get 99% of oil/ fuel out, then i reinstall injectors and pull glow plugs. Next i put valve covers back on with a few bolts holding them on and go crank the engine for a few seconds. Beware this makes some really funky noises and it sounds like its gonna blow your valve covers off but you have nothing left in cyls after this. I then reinstall gp's and proceed to finish other side doing the same process. Works like a charm everytime. Oh an i also change my oil after inj swap just incase a little fuel somehow made it into the oil.

You will like the stage 1's, i know i did!

Luke, what did your fuel mileage do with the stage 1's?

if your able to have your truck down long enough i would reccomend sending your injectors in to get modified so if theres parts that need to get replaced in your injectors then the parts will be going in yours instead of someone elses. mine are headin to ryan in a few weeks soon as i can get my gn hitch in my work truck.

Thanks, Luke - I appreciate the advice. I like the idea of using the valve covers and cranking out the residual oil. I'll be moving out on it in a couple of weeks! I'll let you know how it goes....

Thanks for the reply, Bareback Jake. I hadn't thought about it that way, but I guess it makes sense. Problem is, I can't have my truck down for long, and I don't know what Bean's turnaround time would be. Probably oughta ask them about it. Thanks for the suggestion!
