There should be a coded tg on the dif cover that should have it on it.
The tranny is considered an over drive not a 5 speed although everyone refers to them as 5 speeds. A true 5 speed would only have a final drive ratio od 1:1
it will be #: ## like 4:11 or 3:55

Now, what does having this axle do in terms of fuel economy? The trucks got a 5spd, 4.9 I6, 54,000 miles, kept up regularly. Its got the 3.08. What kind of fuel economy should I expect?
Sounds ok, i was hoping for 18-20 highway. On my last tank of gas, i averaged 10mpg, because my driving consists of a 5 minute warmup in early freezing morning and then driving 1.5 miles in tight traffic, intersections. My guess is it would be ALOT better on the highway on a long trip.
I'd say dale is pretty much dead on. You are driving a giant brick down the road. You're not gonna get 20's in the MPG's unless you have a 50 MPH tail wind going down hill. Just aint gonna happen my friend. Sounds like you got yourself a nice setup otherwise. That ol 300 should last for at least 200K miles more.

I get 18-20mpg highway, 1996 F150 4x2 M5OD, 2.73 axle and 31" tires. Of course it doesn't exactly get up to speed quickly. It is at about 1700RPM @ 70MPH. Never usually rev it past 2000.
Ok, folks, checked it again and I'm getting 14.86mpg, about 95% highway. 3 minute warmup time in th morning, running in freezing weather, only for 1.5 miles in and out of tight traffic.Cold engine. Im happy!
