14.86 MPG seems pretty good to me. Last winter when I had it locked into 4 wheel I got 8 MPG. Any other time I got 11-12. But you also have to figure that I have a higher displacement engine and 2 extra cylinders...
lol be happy, I just calculated mine and I'm getting 9.60 in 2wd... I went to the doctor about it and he said something was wrong with my foot... I guess you drive as you can afford. This tank I'm going to try and drive really lightly, and see what kind of results I get. Hopefully I can get 12-14, hopefully. Enjoy your truck!

See thats what I dont understand with my truck. In the summer it doesn't matter if I run the hell out of it, or go easy on it, my MPG doesnt change. Granted runnin the hell out of it is only gettin it to a max of 3800 RPM, because it shifts into 2nd then, and then into 3rd at 3500. Never have gotten it above 3800 unless I shift it manually. The only time it has changed in the summer is when I was towing a 23 foot boat, which the MPG dropped to 13. I guess that 351 is a tricky engine...
I shift at 2000 rpms all around, for good fuel economy. I really do try. Thanks for yalls opinions, btw. Mine is a 5 speed, are we talking apples to apples here?

It sure is a lot better than what im getting lol. You definately got a good classic truck that from what ive seen is in about perfect condition. Nice truck Bobby!!
I think your mileage is average, but I'll throw in my two cents. I've noticed with my truck that driving over 100KM/H(60MPH) the truck seems to hit a wall of air that you have to force through by pressing harder on the gas. Luckily, I'm in British Columbia Canada, where mountains and curves are the rule, and flat areas are the exception, so I usually never drive more than 100KM/H(60MPH).
I've got Michelin LTX tires that are stock size and fairly thin(I'd say about 9 inches wide) and I always keep them pumped up. I notice that these two tonne trucks are very sensitive to the air pressure. If my tires are down ten psi it feels like I'm dragging the car behind me.
All this said, with my 3.55 gears, 4.9 E4OD, I seem to get almost 1/3 more mileage on the highway. I have not yet done the math, but while I drive to work every day in the city, my truck seems to get about 300KM(180MI) to the rear tank, while on the highway I ALWAYS get betweeen 400 -475KM(285MI) to the rear tank.
