I have a 1982 F150 300 six. My current 1BBL carburetor is in poor condition. I have purchased rebulids and am not happy with the quality. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchace a new unit? My truck is a stick and gas mileage is poor!
As a fellow '82 F150 300-6 owner I'd agree that the quality of the rebuilt carbs sold are poor. Since the original manufacturer (Carter) no longer exists and single barrel carbs aren't in high demand, you won't be finding a new one. I have found that even rebuilding the existing carb doesn't always put a vehicle back to original performance. I suspect it has something to do with the emissions equipment.
I'd try to rebuild the existing, just to put to rest any doubts about the quality of the rebuilt carbs you are getting. If this fixes it..great. If not, you may want to upgrade your existing single barrel instead of wasting money on bad carbs.
