Are you tring to remove the pin to replace it or are you simply wanting to remove the door?

I was not able to remove the pin when I was pulling the doors on my F1 so I removed the hinges from the cab. USE ONLY A #4 PHILLIPS BIT for this.

Beside my '48 F-1, I have a finished '37 Ford coupe street rod, totally finished. I wanted to put hinge mount mirrors on it & the hinge pins wouldn't move with normal means. So, I got a strip of thin plywood against the door & cowl, got a friend to hold a drift up under the pin & two handed an 8# long handled sledge up & pounded the drift. The pins popped out 1st hit! Similar hinges on our trucks so should work.

The hinge pin tools are a waste of money. I removed my doors from the truck with the hinges attached so that I could turn them upside down to drive out the old hinge pins with a 5 pound sledge and a drift. I did not need heat but I did use a lot of PB Blaster and swear words...

I center punched the pin and drilled about 1/4 down with the largest drill bit I could use this allows the knurling to collaps as you take a drift punch and easily drive the pin down. Ed ke6bnl

I found the thread thru search and wanted to say thanks. I have tried removing the hinge pins on my 51 F1 with no luck. I want to remove the doors while working on the truck but the hinges are actually welded in. Hopefully these tips will help, thanks

rodnex,

Are your door hinges completely welded on or just have a small stitch weld holding them place. All of the trucks I have had had the stitch weld. I ground them out and just tightened the bolts when I re-installed them. If you're just doing minor work without having to repaint grinding would cause a problem.

mine had a small stich weld, but the pins have some play. i tryed to screw out the screw's and some came out . so i drilled off the heads and the doors came off. the part's truck i hope will not be as hard. i tryed a hammer impack and some came out. i am keeping lube spray on part's truck so they might be easier when i get to them.

Mine to are stitch welded in. I recently took a set of door off of a 51 and they weren't welded. I used the hammer style impact driver, just make sure you use a #4 phillips bit!
I did have to drill the head off of a couple of the screws.

The craftsman impact driver costs about $27.00 and the head can be removed and turned with a 1/2" drive ratchet. I found it extremely helpful when I pulled my doors. The hinge to body interface on my 50 F1 was not stitch welded.

I soak with penetrating oil first if they don't want to come out with a good phillips screwdriver I fire up the torch. Nothing like a gas wrench for the stubborn door bolts. I get them cherry red and they turn right out. I tried the hand impact wrench on the stuborn ones and ended up wrecking the ends after getting a couple out and wasting a lot of time. Now I just go after them with the torch, guaranteed to work 99.5% of the time and quick too. I also run a 5/16" fine thread tap through little triangluar piece of 1/4" steel in the door post. I replace with new bolts, I don't like messing with the old ones once they're out, a little grease on the threads of the new bolts don't hurt either. I have torn apart a lot of trucks in the last twenty plus years.
