I've got a 65 F250 with a 352 and NP435 trans. The granny type.
From what I've been able to learn, the bolt pattern on the front of the 435 is not the same as a toploader, which is where I want to go.
I do know there's bellhousings out there to put a toploader behind an FE and I'm sure David Kee would sell me one. They seem to be the pre-eminent toploader shop on the planet.
But I'd like to score one for cheap on E-Bay. The problem is I can't tell the difference between the 435 or toploader flavor. Some auctions say out of a truck which is more than likely the 435. Others say toploader and are hopefully correct. Others have no info at all.
The bellhousings I've seen recently are usually a C5TA or C6TA casting and while they don't always include the info on the next 4 numbers, I have seen 7505, 6505, etc.
If anybody knows how to ID the toploader version on the these bells by the P/N, I'd sure like to have the info.
www.4speedtoploaders.com click on the ID section then on bellhousing ID. That will give you a list with part numbers of all the Ford bells and application. It's the David Kee toploader site.
Truck and car bellhousings are different depths. Truck housings are more shallow-1/2 " or so, I don't remember the exact amount but they are close enough that they must be measured. "C5TA" type numbers are truck #'s (the "T" in the prefix). Car #'s might be like "C5AE". for a "full size" (the "A" in the prefix).
