Do any of you know (or know where I might find) a list of the pinouts or a schematic for the AC / Temperature / Fan controls? Vehical in question is a 1998 F-150. I tried looking around the old posts a bit, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I actually have one sitting on my lap, but it shows where and into what they plug into, it doesn't describe the function of the wire bundles or the wires. Or says something like "fan control wires to blower." Now I assume that the fan control is a 5-way rotary switch, and the A/C probably is too, but what about the temperature, is it some sort of potentiometer? If it is, what its resistance range?
I suppose I should include why I want the information. I'm considering making an electronic climate control system of my own, or at least interface the existing one to a digital system. So, I'm trying to figure out what sort of method I'd have to apply to convert those three ***** to something a digital device could control.
Have you thought about maybe trying to scavenge an electronic system from another vehicle, (after checking the wiring for it), and retro fitting it to yours? You are talking about a Ford. Maybe there is something in a Mercury or even another Ford with fancier options that has what you are looking for. Could make it easier.
Yeah, it seems like that would be easier. I've been wanting to change mine to EATC since I bought it, but still haven't got around to it. Since the later Lariots had EATC, not to mention many of the similar Expys and Navigators, it should be relatively easy.
I'd at least like to set it up so that it would sense the coolant temperature and not blow air when on the "floor" position until it heated up. Before they had Automatic Temp Control, many vehicles had that at least.
Well, the idea crossed my mind briefly, but I'm a computer engineering student and something I'd eventually like to accomplish is having an in-car computer with audio, climate control, video, real-time specs, and maybe navigation tied togeather into one interface. So, it will require some custom hardware/software. I'm considering this project more for the fun and the challenge of doing it than the actual convience. (95% of the time I just have the thing set to no fan and vent ) If I'm lucky I might even pass it off as a senior project
