I have a 93 bronco 5.0, Have promblems with keeping it idleing when cold. The chock will come on for about 30 seconds, and It will shut off if I do not give it a little gas. Once the motor is warmed up it will idle fine, at about 800 rpms. Could it be the throttle position sensor or the idle air control.
Start by cleaning the IAC with a good throttle body cleaner. IF that does nothing for you pull the codes. It sounds like the IAC has failed but you can pull the codes to be certain. Once you have the KOEO and KOER test results (Codes) you will be able to pinpoint the problem much better than if you start by guessing. ANY situation that has caused the engine to shut down will trigger an error code of some kind. If you need info on how to pull them check your Haynes manual or www.fordfuelinjection.com
If you need help interpreting or discerning just what the "fix" for each code should be, let us know. We can certainly help there.
I Cleaned the throttlebody and the idle air control with throttlebody cleaner, it seems to be idleing fine now. It idles at a 1000 rpms, with no hesitation.
I cleaned the throttlebody and idle air control with "CRC" brand throttle body cleaner. That seems to work, it idles fine at 1000 rpm and does not shut off.
Kem is right, normal speed is 700-900 rpm @ curb idle (engine running, auto transmission in a non-moving gear/ manual transmission out of gear). If it does not drop down after a few minutes to within this range, you may still have an IAC issue.
