I just installed a brand new IAC Valve. My idle isn't returning correctly to base idle when coasting i was wondering if there is some sort of an adjustment on the valve or something that would need to be tweeked. I pulled the battery cable off and reset the computer but it still is doing it. It also has a real lazy idle down when my foot is on the brake and i push the gas.
There are no adjustment on the IAC; it's operation is fully controlled by the ECM. Are there any stored codes and have you looked carefully and thoroughly for vac leaks?
I ran the scanner on it and no codes came up, however a while back i did discover i have a small leak in my upper intake manifold gasket its in the rear could that cause the problem. I had my truck on a lift and i noticed a small puddle on the ground of oil and i traced it back up and i felt the gasket broken but its very small.
That would do it!
Any vac leak will cause it to die intermittently and for idle speed to be wrong.
Doing the intake gaskets isn't a huge deal, the first car you do is always the worst. Once you've done it once you'll never think twice about ripping it apart if you need to again. Just take your time and make sure you get all of the bolts out, including those hidden in back under the vac hoses or ignition wires. Oh, and when you lift the intake off, you'll have to bump up on it with the flat of your hand to get the EGR tube out, it's a tight fit.
You'll be pleased that you did.
