On my drive home from work tonight I heard this strange noise. It was a sssssssss sound almost like someone sanding a piece of wood, but without the pauses to change direction. (like going in a circle) The sound would disappear above 1800rpms and below 1000. It did it in od, 3rd, and 2nd (moving too fast for 1st) regardless of wether the t/c was locked or unlocked. I thought it might be the ebpv, but the engine was warm and the outside air was around 40 degrees. I even tapped the brake a few times to make sure. This all went on for about 2 miles then it stopped. I'm a little worried cause there are a few other knocking noises under hard acceleration and I've got about 1200 miles left on the engine warranty. My other thought was could oil have something to do with it? Its about 500 miles overdue. Sorry for the long post, I'm hoping to get some advice before I go to work tomorrow.
Mine does the same thing man, I really don't think it's a problem but I can't say that for sure. I know the exact noise your talking about but don't know for sure what it is. There have been several post's about this and no definit answers, just posabilities. (most of which I can rule out). I'm not gonna say it's the oil but it seems more evident since I switched to castrol. But that could just be my imagination.
I'm thinking it is your EBPV. They operate until the engine is fully warmed up. And if it's cold enough to cool the engine back down just by idling, like in the arctic, it will cycle on and off as needed all day long.
Yeah, now that I think about it thats probably what it was. I've only had the truck for two months, so its my first time hearing that. I just wanted to make sure shes ok cause I cant afford to fix anything right now with the payments. As for the oil, there are 4 gallons of RotellaT 15w-40 that are gonna be in the engine by dinner time sunday. Time to start saving for the mods!
With 1500 miles left on the warranty, no matter what us guys say, take it to a dealer and have them run diagnostics, check out the whole truck thoroughly before the warranty expires. A good dealer knows he makes money from Ford when he fixes things, and should do a good job of the checkup.
Good Luck

sorry to say but you are well on your way to emptywalletitis..! that's ok though.. someone on here said it best... i would rather be broke with mods than wealthy and stock..!
How much would it cost to have the diagnostics run? If they did find something wrong, do I have to pay a certain amount, like a deductible? I'm the second owner of this truck.
Its was definatley the EBPV. The temperature finally dropped tonight (it was 65 at 6am yesterday) and the valve was working most of my way home. Time for a new thread on cold front covers. As for the warranty, shes going in in the next week or two to get checked.
