Do you mean the burp moise that occurs when you let off the gas quickly?
That's because there is no blow-off valve (BOV) on the turbo. What happens is that when your turbo is spooled up, there is plenty of exhaust pressure to keep the turbo spooled up. When you let off, the exhaust pressure drops off, which means that there isn't enough pressure to maintain the boost on the other side. On a conventional turbo, the BOV would open up and vent the excess boost off, but since the 6.0's turbo lacks one, you get a pressure wave on the compressor side, which makes the weird burp noise.
This is what is occuring,
As you accelerate, if it were a gasolene engine, it would be "Popping" thru the carberator. In the diesel, it is "popping" thru the turbo. There is no wastegate in the 6.0, they are variable veins in the turbo.
There is no power. It will not exceed 2500rpm and is expells an exstreme amount of black smoke. This accurs 50% of the time and the rest it functions normally. Good acceleration, no "popping", no black smoke.
sounds to me like your vanes are sticking shut at a low boost. this is VERY dangerous for the turbo, read some other posts, PSD 6.0L FX4 talks about how this backpressure situation works.
