in conjunction with EGT, it shows you when to back off a little to prolong the engine and turbo. when the stock turbo reaches 25psi, it begins to become less efficient. plus the turbo has no ball bearing, instead it uses a thrust bushing, which can allow the shaft to move some at high boost. have you seen how close the turbo wheel is close to the housing? it is thousands of an inch, and if under high boosting, the wheel hit the housing, it would be a bad day.
but i assume you dont hot rod your truck, and if you arent into the pedal much, (in other words, driving conservatively, not towing), i dont think you NEED a boost gauge.
It is an effective diagnostic tool...or at least an indicator of potential problems, but at stock or near stock boost levels there is no day to day "need" for it.
I beginning to think like you SP. Other than the "cool" factor, I'm not sure it's the best choice for the third gauge. Unless you're going to add some big HP with a chip, install a boost fooler and disable the waste gate, if you have one, I don't see the need cause you'll probably never get close to 30PSI boost. I'm not into beating up on "ricers" or Dodges. I'm looking for reliability and longevity. What are you thinking for a third gauge? engine temp, oil pressure, volts, fuel pressure? I'm trying to think of what would go wrong that one of those would detect, that would cause the most damage or cost the most to repair. Or possibly, most frequently goes bad based on the experiences of others.
i am going to get a 3-pod a-pillar one soon to compliment my attitude monitor. i am thinking actual boost (i like to hot rod, i would like to see how high it goes), transmission temp, and coolant temp. i would like the coolant temp just to see when i can take off in the cold mornings, let it get to a certain temp before going on my way.

You might consider a real oil pressure gauge to replace the idiot light masquerading as an oil pressure gauge that Ford installs on the dash.
If you have already converted the stock oil pressure gauge then an oil temp or good coolant temp gauge would be my choice.
You could also put in an EGT gauge with the probe mounted opposite the monitors probe ( If monitor probe is pre turbo then mount one post turbo or vice versa) That way you could let us all know what the true discrepency between pre and post turbo pyros is
I just love to spend other peoples money for them

Well I guess I am going to have to remove the happy face ball from my left over space in my 3 guage pod and fill it with ???????????? Oil pressure seems the best user guage.
I agree with cookie..the boost gauge is a great diagnostic tool. I mean look at what happened with strokin_it and the low boost he had. He knew there was something wrong and looked at all the connections and finally tightened down the problem. Haha how much boost did you gain again strokin_it????
