Its about time to replace the speakers in my 83's doors. I've got some 4 1/2's there now that the PO installed. I want to replace them with some 6.5's. What should i get? I'm not running them off an amp, but may plan to do so in the future. Right now i plan on running them off the Pioneer headunit in the dash.
I was thinking about getting some Lightning audios, as i've always had good luck with them. But i'm open to suggestions.
Personally the Lightning Audio's are going to be extremely cheap made and have poor quality sound to them as well.. same with Sony's cheaper line. Don't buy anything from Walmart, Kmart, or Target for your stereo.
What are you wanting to spend on these? I always say spend more than you plan to for better quality, once I know what you're planning to spend I'll give some options.
Good suggestions, i'll look into the Pioneers or Infinitys'.
If i knew what it was i wanted for certain, or the price-range i'm willing to go to i'd be sure to fill you guys in. I just want something better than the POS Roadmasters that the P.O. installed.
Well don't go Sony (lower end), Lightning Audio, or Jensen.
I wasn't sure what you wanted to spend so I kept my mouth shut. You can get the Infinity's relatively cheap on ebay, if that tickles your fancy. Polk has pretty good speakers as well, and Alpine does as well. Kicker's are relatively good too.
Aside from that, I would deffinately looking into amping them, even with a small amp. They would sound so much better, you have no idea. When I first started I always though, my HU is putting out some serious power, I don't need to amp it.. then I did one day and I'll never go back.
I'm still unsure on what type of speakers i'll be getting. My next thing is running the amp to them. Since i'm somewhat of a audio n00b i've got a question. My HU only has one set of RCA outs. How would i connect the amp to the front components?
If i can find a good location, out of the way, and figure out how to hook the amp to them i'll see about picking something up.
Easy way would be to get a Y cable, hard way is a new HU and run a new pair of RCA cables lol. Just get a 4-channel amp (or 5-channel if you wan't to add a sub without buying two amps) and you should be set.
Run the RCA outs to the amp, there should be a single input on the amp for the RCA cables. Then run the wires from the amp to each speaker. Component tweeters are wired in with the component speakers.
Hey everyone, i actullay only joined this forum (even though I have a 04 f-150 SC) to comment on the recommendation made. First off, Im a JL fan. Always have been and always will be BUT the guy above said he was looking at Lightening Audio and everyone said they were crap. About 3 months ago I would have agreed simply because the only LA stuff I had seen was at Wal-Mart etc...however I now know differently. LA is one of the best brands out there for the money as long as you dont get the Bolt line (the yellow looking crap at Wal-Mart) Their Strike and Storm series rock. The Bolt series has been winning cometitions left and right in my area and sound amazing. I bought a set of Strike components for filler in the back (I have JL ZR comp in the front) and they may not go as deep but the quality of sound is amazing for what I paid. They are built exactly the same as the RF Power line, same parts etc and as you may or may not know they are made by RF. So, if you like them and can get a good deal the Strike of Storm line is great. I would recommend JL first of course. I love my ZR comp set.
