LA does have better stuff as long as it's not the Bolt line, but for a good quality name JL Audio, Eclipse, Focal, and Silver Flute has all hit it. Even their cheap stuff is good quality. I'm not a fan of RF or LA or Sony or Pioneer (except headunits on the Pioneer) because they all are sub-par for me. That's just my opinion though.
kstatenate: You said DON'T buy the Bolt line, then you said they've been winning competitions in your area. Now which one is it?
I reccommend JL, but that's a pretty penny, but worth it in the end, IF YOU KNOW WHAT A GOOD SOUND SYSTEM SOUNDS LIKE. To the average Joe, they won't notice a real difference, especially if it's amped, the signal clarity will be awesome either way.
I had a Bolt amp wired to a LA promotional limited sub, sub was awesome, still have it, the amp sucked and was a royal PITA.
Welcome to FTE by the kstatenate!
Oh and as for Pioneer, I love their speakers. But the AVIC-N1, oh that's a drooler right there...

no i typed it wrong, the storm stuff is winning comps, not the bolt lol. thats my fault. I was tired. Anyways, I agree with what you said. You can get a crappy set of comp sets and throw it in there hooked up to a crap amp and 8/10 people will not know the difference. Its the 2/10 that keep the high end industry going. Like I said I recommend ZR's. Its what I have, but they are about $800-$1000 for a set.
Yeppers, and that 2/10 is a very picky bunch, and you will need the high end shiz to keep them happy! You'll develop into one of them after you've had good stuff in the car for a while then get into one of your friends vehicles, holy crap there is a difference! lol.
Yeah Storm ain't bad stuff. Which is why Walmart doesn't stock it!
I'm personally into Eclipse, I love their stuff. But there is better too. I'm buying 2 pairs of components from A/D/S which retailed at $2500 a pair. Maybe I'm that 2/10th's lol. But I still think you guys really need to focus ont he acoustic side of your vehicles more than speakers.
