hey guys. my brother just bought a 78 f150 that was turned into a swamp buggy. its has a freashly rebuilt 400ci, the only component missing is the exhaust. it has a new pair of headers, but muffler and pipes are all rusted out. since its not street legal anyway...should he spend the money on a muffler, or just run straight pipes without a muffler?? will not having a muffler improve engine power or make it lose power? what diameter tubing would be best for the exhaust system? thanx

screw the rest of the exhaust you can get more hp out of an engine with open headers than you would with messing with the pipe and mufflers. If its a mud machine who cares and it would save you some time and money
